Gwyl Y Mimosa : Mimosa Festival

This year is the 140th anniversary of the sailing from Liverpool of the S.S. Mimosa with over 150 Welsh migrants aboard and bound for Patagonia. There they established a Welsh settlement and remarkably it has survived to this day. The Merseyside Welsh Heritage Society is holding a festival on October 22-23 to commemorate the sailing from Liverpool in 1865. The following events are planned.

Saturday morning, October 22,
10.30: lecture by Gareth James, Liverpool, 'The Background to the Migration' (in Welsh)
11.30: lecture by Susan Wilkinson, Ontario, Canada, 'Mimosa: The Ship that sailed into History'.

Saturday evening, October 22,
7.30: concert given by the renowned Rhosllanerchrugog Male Voice Choir, conductor John Daniel.

Sunday morning, October 23,
10.30: 'Oedfa'r Mimosa', a service led by the Rev. Dr. D. Ben Rees.

A commemorative booklet about the Festival is in preparation.

All the events will take place at Bethel Chapel, Heathfield Road, Allerton, Liverpool.
